Creative Writing Workshops
Weekly Creative Writing Workshops
Our weekly creative writing workshop is currently led by Bobby MacPherson, a Knowledge Seekers’ Tutor and graduate of the University of Manchester's Creative Writing MA who has received tuition from literary figures such as Martin Amis, Colm Toibin, Geoff Ryman and Maria Hyland.
This term-long creative workshop will encourage children to tap into their natural capacity for creativity. Through the medium of games, group-writing and language-based activities children will be provided with take home tools that support them in writing within a range of styles (including character descriptions, dialogue, narrative and imaginative stories) encouraging them to be writers for life. Over the term, an array of themes from Nature and Identity through to Fantasy Worlds and Science Fiction will be brought to life, using exercises that stimulate an exploration of the world of words.
By the end of the course the children can expect to have produced work in a variety of forms (poetry, diary entries, letters, play-scripts), all corresponding to key points in the writing section of the English Key Stage 2 and 3 national curriculum. In addition, we will explore the use of spoken word and performance poetry that utilises the tools of literacy in a different way and helps pupils with weaker reading or writing skills develop confidence.
Learning Outcomes
Each child will have:
• Achieved a breakthrough in the way they approach creative writing.
• Increased their speed, imagination, flow and confidence in themselves as successful writers.
• Let go of the idea of there being a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to write.
• Developed a firm foundation of tools and skills which they know how to use and apply to any new writing task.
I just wanted to give you some feedback on the creative writing course. Our son is enjoying this so much and in fact would love to carry on for as long as possible. I know it's meant to be a term long course but if there was a chance to do an advanced version afterwards or just something similar ongoing that would be brilliant. I haven't seen him be this enthusiastic about anything else and he was able to write a speech for his school public speaking contest which he is now in the final for. It's just brilliant - thank you so much, I'm wondering if his younger brother should join in from September.

Intensive Creative Writing Workshops
This is a more extensive and expanded version of our Saturday Young Writers’ Workshop and is a great alternative for children who have other Saturday clubs. This course runs for 5 days, giving your child the chance to script and make their own short films, as well as using photography and art to structure their writing. This is a fantastic opportunity to have your child enjoy writing and develop their skills in readiness for the new academic year.
If you are looking for a particular creative approach to writing, our workshop leaders are also available to offer tailored workshops for any small to medium groups of children from Year 1 right up to GCSE level. Give the office a call and we will discuss with you how we can help.
